International Season 1979/80, Part 4 (November 1979)

November

Sweden went on a tour of Asia.
France defeated Czechoslovakia in their last qualifier, but the Czechs had already qualified.
Prior to the Portugal and Austria qualifier, the West German national anthem was mistakingly played instead of Austria’s.
Belgium qualified for the Euros after defeating Scotland (2-0).
Northern Ireland defeated the Republic of Ireland (1-0). Afterwards, Northern Ireland Manager Danny Blanchflower resigned.
A coin thrown from the stands hit Republic of Ireland’s Gerry Daly, which forced him to leave the field.
Wales’ Byron Stevenson was suspended by UEFA on February 1980, for a period of 4 and half years ending in July 31, 1984, following his sending off vs. Turkey.
He was sent off for an altercation with Bayuck Mustafa on an off the abll incident.
At the end of the month, the first leg of the Copa America final took place between Chile and Paraguay.
