Notes:

-Match number 505 for France and number 566 for Brazil.

-This was the first match between the nations, since the 1986 World Cup Quarterfinal (1-1 tie) that France won on penalty kick shoot-out.
The only players who remained from that match were Brazilians Careca, Branco, Junior, Valdo and Carlos, of which only Junior, Careca and Branco played.
Careca scored Brazil’s goal in that match.
Only Amoros and Papin (who remained on the bench for that match) were part of that France squad.
- This was France’s first defeat in Parc des Princes, since November 18, 1987 (a 1-0 loss to East Germany for UEFA Euro 88 qualifiers).

-Brazil’s last win vs France was on May 15, 1981 when they defeated France 3-1 in the same stadium. Junior was the only player from that match still present.

-On July 2, 1992, Michel Platini resigned as France national team manager.
He was appointed to the organizing committee for the 1998 World Cup to be held in France.
On July 9, 1992, Gerard Houiller was appointed as his repalcement as national team manager.

-Prior to this match, France had been low in confidence after their poor display and elimination in the first round of 1992 UEFA Euro at Sweden.
Afterwards Gerard Houillier remarked that perhaps playing an opponent like Brazil was not the best manner to rebuild confidence.

- Gerard Houillier made his debut as manager at the stadium of Paris Saint-Germain that he guided to the league title in 1985/86.
- With this loss, France had still not won a single match in the calendar year of 1992. An eight match winless streak. The last French win was on November 20, 1991 UEFA Euro 92 qualifier, France 3-Iceland 1.
-Gerard Houillier appointed Jean-Pierre Papin, who had just transferred to Italian Serie A club AC Milan, as the new captain.
The former captain Manuel Amoros was on the bench  for this match and was never called up again.
Likewise former squad members Fabrice Divert, Amara Simba and Christian Perez were discarded and not called up again.
Luis Fernandez had retired from the national team after the 1992 Euros.
Franck Silvestre was called up a number of times, though never played, and he also was never called up again.

-For France’s new tactical formation, Roche was placed as Libero. Blanc would be placed just ahead of the defense. Boli and Prunier would be the two stoppers, with Deschamps as the defensive midfielder.
Durand and Petit would cover the midfield wings on the right and left respectively.  Cocard and Ginola would be the wingers at right and left respectively, with papin as lone striker. In the second half, Fournier entered as right midfield wing, with Durand moving to left back and Vahirua as left wing.

-Eric Cantona withdrew from this match as he felt mentally unprepared for this match. He watched from the stands. David Ginola replaced him in the lineup.

-New call up, Alain Roche had not played for France since February 1989 vs Ireland.
-Other new France call-up David Ginola had not played for France since November 1990 vs Albania.

-Brazilian player Junior had not played for Brazil since the 1986 World Cup, at the age of 38, he had made his comeback for the national team only since the previous April.
-Rai, the Brazil captain,  is the younger brother of former Brazilian captain Socrates. Both brothers captained Brazil vs France at Parc des Princes. Socrates did it in May 15, 1981 (3-1 win).
