The First Time ….., Part Thirteen

1-The First time that a Scottish Player, who was born in England, captained Scotland was on May 28th, 1977. Bruce Rioch skippered his nation vs. Wales (May 28, 1977, Home Championship, Wales 0-Scotland 0)
He was born in Aldershot.

2- The first time that a Soviet player joined a West German club was on August 2,  1989. Alexander Borodjiuik Joined Schalke in the second Division from Dynamo Moscow.
Just over a week later, On August 10th, Igor Belanov became the first ever-Soviet player to join the Bundesliga, when he signed for Borussia Moenchengladbach.

3-The first time that a British goalkeeper was sold for over  £1million was in the summer of 1989, when Nigel Martyn joined Crystal Palace from Bristol Rovers.

 4-The first time that a player received a yellow card in the World Cup was on May 31, 1970, when USSR’s Evgeny Lovchev was booked in the inaugural match of the Tournamant (May 31, 1970, World Cup, Mexico 0-USSR 0)


5- The first time that the Republic of Ireland National team traveled by air was for a friendly vs. Portugal at Lisbon (June 16, 1946, Portugal 3-Republic of Ireland 1)
