Oriundis and Other Naturalized Internationals, Part Four

1- Emmanuel Olisadebe-Nigeria and Poland 2000/02
Emmanuel Olisadebe was a Nigerian-born Striker, who joined Polish club Polonia Warsaw in 1997.
He obtained Polish Citizenship in 2000 and helped Poland qualify for the 2002 World Cup.

2- Basile Boli-Ivory Coast and France 1980s and 90s
French defender Basile Boli was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He arrived in France at a young age and made the Auxerre First team as a teenager under the tutelage of Guy Roux in the early 80s.
He was part of the French National Team set-up from 1986 to 1993.

3- Enrique Guaita-Argentina and Italy 1930s
Argentina-born striker Enrique Guaita made his name with Estudiantes in the early 30s.
In 1933 he joined AS Roma in Italy. He obtained Italian Citizenship and was part of the triumphant 1934 World Cup squad. During the World Cup, he scored Italy’s winning goal vs. Austria in the semifinal.
He earned caps with both Argentina and Italy.

4- Bernd Krauss-West Germany and Austria, 1970s and 80s
Bernd Krauss was a West German born defender who became a professional in his native city at Borussia Dortmund.
He joined Austria’s Rapid Vienna in 1977 and had a successful six-year spell.
He did not receive any call-ups from West Germany and he became an Austrian Citizen and played for the National Team from 1981 to 1984 and was a member of Austria’s 1982 World Cup squad.

5- David Regis-France and USA 1998
David Regis was a defender who was born in Martinique and played professionally in mostly France, with a spell in the Bundesliga at Karlsruhe (1997/98).

He was able to obtain US citizenship since his wife was an American Citizen. He was part of USA’s 1998 World Cup squad.
