Error in Casting, Part Twelve

1- Paolo Rossi and AC Milan 1985/86

The star of the 1982 World Cup Paolo Rossi was transferred from Juventus in the summer of 1985 to AC Milan as he was starting to show signs of age.

His solitary season at Milan was uneventful and at the end of the season he was exchanged with Verona’s Giuseppe Galderisi.

2- Maurice ‘Mo’ Johnston and Everton 1991/93

Scotland and Rangers Glasgow striker Mo Johnston was signed by Everton Manager Howard Kendall in November 1991.

He failed to settle in a struggling side and scored few goals. In October 1993, he was transferred to Hearts back in Scotland.

3- Mike Walker and Everton 1994

Norwich City Manager Mike Walker had masterminded their UEFA Cup qualification in 1993.

He felt Norwich were not ambitious enough and joined struggling Everton in the new year 1994. Despite just barely saving them from relegation not much progress was made and the team continued to struggle.

Early in the 1994/95 season, he was relieved of duty and replaced by Joe Royle.

4- Flavio Conceiçao and Real Madrid 2000/02

Brazilian midfielder Flavio Conceiçao joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2000 after helping Deportivo La Coruna win the League title.

He was signed along with Celta Vigo’s French midfielder Claude Makelele to strengthen their midfield.

While the Frenchman flourished, Flavio failed to settle and made few appearances before leaving.

5- Eugene Kabongo and Anderlecht 1986/87

Congo Striker Eugene Kabongo joined Anderlecht in the summer of 1986 after helping Racing Club Paris achieve promotion in the French League.

His stay in Belgium was disappointing and only made nine appearances in the season (scoring a solitary goal) before returning to France and joining Olympique Lyonnais.
