International Season 1978/79, Part 10 (June and July 1979)


June

Argentina continued its Tour of Europe.
England played a number of matches. It first defeated Bulgaria in Sofia (3-0) in a qualifier, then lost to Austria (3-4) in a friendly.
The English also faced Sweden to celebrate Swedish Football Association’s 75th anniversary.
Kevin Keegan played two matches in two days, one for his club Hamburg.
At this insistence of Sweden officials he also took part in this match.
Safet Susic became the first player in 31 years to score a hat trick against Italy in Yugoslavia’s (4-1) win.
Switzerland won an away match for the first time in 6 years as they defeated Iceland in a qualifier.
Kurt Nielsen managed Denmark for the last time as the West German Sepp Piontek was about to take over.
