The First Time ….., Part Ninteen

1-The first time that a goalkeeper was replaced in a World Cup for any other reason than injury was on June 18^th, 1974. Zaire goalkeeper Muampa Kazadi was substituted after 22 minutes in their match vs. Yugoslavia. The team were already losing (0-3) when he was replaced and went on to lose (0-9).

2- The first time that an Italian Manager faced his home Nation as opposing Manager was in 2009. Giovanni Trapattoni, the Former Italian National Team Manager (2000 to 2004), faced Italy as the Manager of Republic of Ireland on April 1, 2009 (Italy 1-Republic of Ireland 1, WC qualifier).

3-The first time that a Spanish International match was shown in color on Television was in November 16^th, 1975.  Romania hosted Spain in a UEFA European Championship Qualifier (2-2 tie).

 4- The First time that a non-British player joined a British side for more than £1 Million was in 1990, when Liverpool signed Israeli striker Ronnie Rosenthal on permanent basis (he had been on loan for a few months) for £1.1 Million from Standard Liege.

5- The first time that a Scotland player was sent off in an International on home soil was in 1972. Peter Lorimer (Leeds United) was sent off in the 84^th minute in a World Cup qualifier at Glasgow vs. Denmark (2-0) on November 15^th, 1972. (Incidentally Lorimer had scored Scotland’s second goal in that match).

It is also worth mentioning that Billy Steel (in 1951) was the first ever Scottish player to be sent off, but Lorimer was the first one at home.
