Later Stapelton admitted that the penalty should not have been awarded.

3-This was the first official match of Republic of Ireland with Englishman Jacky Charlton as manager.

4- Jackie Charlton wanted Liam Brady further upfront not as deep like usual and gave him an ultimatum that if he didn’t play his way, he would be dropped.
