5-For France’s new tactical formation, Roche was placed as Libero. Blanc would be placed just ahead of the defense. Boli and Prunier would be the two stoppers, with Deschamps as the defensive midfielder.

Durand and Petit would cover the midfield wings on the right and left respectively.  Cocard and Ginola would be the wingers at right and left respectively, with papin as lone striker. In the second half, Fournier entered as right midfield wing, with Durand moving to left back and Vahirua as left wing.

6-Eric Cantona withdrew from this match as he felt mentally unprepared for this match. He watched from the stands. David Ginola replaced him in the lineup.
