The Centenary of the English FA was celebrated in a match featuring the English League vs. a World Selection. The m atch took place just over a year after the ‘Gand of God’ incident, as a result, Diego Maradona was jeered.
West Germany defeated France (2-1) in a match where Eric Cantona scored on his debut for France.
Tord Grip managed Norway for the first time in their scoreless draw with Sweden.
On August 24, 1987, Josef Verebes announced his resignation as Hungary manager.
Ferenc Kovacs was appointed as caretaker manager.
