International Season 1978/79, Part 2 (September 1978)

September

France lost an important point at home in its Euro qualifier vs, Sweden in Paris (2-2 tie).
The USA National Team toured Europe and played matches vs. Iceland, Switzerland and Portugal.
Jozef Venglos managed Czechoslovakia for the first time in a friendly vs. East Germany (1-2 loss).
Jacek Gmoch managed Poland for the last time in their Euro qualifier at Iceland (2-0 win).
Austria won its second Euro qualifier vs. Scotland (3-2), which turned out to be Scotland Manager Ally McLeod’s last match in charge.
1980 Euros host Italy started its preparatory friendlies with wins over Bulgaria (1-0) and Turkey (1-0).
England defeated Denmark at Copnhagen (4-3) in its first Euro qualifier with Keegan scoring twice.
New Hungary Manager Ferenc Kovacs lost his first match in charge a Euro qualifier at Finland (1-2) at Helsinki.
Jan Zwartkruis was back in charge of Holland as they defeated Iceland (3-0) in their first Euro qualifier.
The all Ireland qualifier at Dublin ended scoreless.
