International Season 1978/79, Part 3 (October 1978)


October

Czechoslovakia defeated Sweden (3-1) at Stockholm for a key away win in their Group.
Jupp Derwall managed West Germany for the first time in a friendly at Czechoslovakia (4-3 win).
Greece won two important matches in its Group, defeating Finland (8-1) and Hungary (4-1).
In the same Group, Hungary defeated USSR (2-0).
Ryszard Kulesza managed Poland for the first time in a friendly loss at Romania (0-1).
Republic of Ireland and England drew (1-1) in their qualifier in Dublin.
In Jock Stein’s first match in charge, Scotland defeated Norway (3-2) in a qualifier.
