2-The
Germans had only arrived 48 hours before the match. They were ill-prepared and
not yet acclimatized to the weather conditions.
This
would go a long way to explain their poor displays during this tournament.
3-
In the 41st minute, Mark Wright fouled Uwe Rahn in the box and
the Germans were awarded a spot kick. Peter Shilton came to England’s rescue
and saved Andreas Brehme’s effort.

Note:
1-For
the Azteca 2000 Tournament, Italy and West Germany did not play one another.
The Germans arrived in Mexico on June 10, two days after the completion of the
Bundesliga season. By which time, the Italians had already departed home for
the Italian Cup matches. This was the reason the Tournament was divided into
two.
2-Franz
Beckenbauer rested Schumacher and started Uli Stein in goal. Rudi Voeller and
Bayern Munich debutant Ludwig Koegl came into the side replacing Littbarski and
Berthold.
3-There
have been doubts about the fact that these were two tournaments or one. Many
sources have referred to all these matches as Azteca 2000.
It
is possible that due to scheduling conflicts (Italians leaving early, Germans
coming late), the tournaments were divided. Most likely this was devised to be
one proper tournament that would have included all four teams.
4-First
cap for Ludwig Kögl.
