Suker and Arsenal 1999/2000
Croatian
striker Davor Suker left Real Madrid in the summer 1999 after being unable to
command a starting spot. He joined Arsenal as an extra attacking option after
Nicolas Anelka had left that summer. However, his time at Arsenal was just as
frustrating as his last season at Real Madrid. At the end of the season he
joined West Ham United.

2- Marcio
Santos and Fiorentina 1994/95 and Ajax Amsterdam 1995/97
Brazilian
defender Marcio Santos stood out during the 1994 World Cup, where he earned a
starting spot in the victorious squad. He was rewarded with a transfer to
Fiorentina for the 1994/95. However, his time there was frustrating and failed
to settle. The new European Champions of Ajax of Louis van Gaal took a gamble
on him by recruiting him in the summer of 1995. But he had a disappointing time
at Ajax as well and after two seasons he left European Football.

3- Fernando
De Napoli and AC Milan 1992/94
Italian
International midfielder joined AC Milan in the summer of 1992 after six
successful seasons at Napoli, where he won the Scudetto twice. However, his
arrival coincided with a spending spree at Milan that brought other midfielders
such as Stefano Eranio, Zvonimir Boban, Gianluigi Lentini, Dejan Savicevic to a
midfield already containing Ro0berto Donadoni, Alberigo Evani, Demetrio
Albertini and Franck Rijkaard. Needless to say, his playing was so limited that
he played less than 10 matches in two seasons. He left in 1994 for Reggiana to
wind down his career.

4- Thomas
Haessler and Borussia Dortmund 1998/99
International
German midfielder Thomas Haessler joined Borussia Dortmund in the summer of
1998. Much was expected of him and his partnership with fellow International
Andy Moeller. However, he was unable to settle into the squad and had problems
with young manager Michael Skibbe. In all he managed to play 18 matches all
season. At the end of the season, he joined TSV Munich 1860.

5- Nigel
Clough and Liverpool 1993/96
English
striker Nigel Clough joined Liverpool as an expensive transfer after his
father’s squad Nottingham Forest was relegated.
His
time at Liverpool was frustrating with the Manager Graeme Souness who had
signed him resigned in midseason, The emergence of young striker Robbie Fowler
also restricted his opportunities.
Midway
through the 1995/96 season, he transferred to Manchester City.
