1990s
The
sides met again, this time in the Second Round of the 1990 World Cup. The match
remembered for the spitting incident between Frank Rijkaard and Rudi Voller.
The were both sent off for repeated dissent.
The
sides met again in the 1992 Euros, this time the Dutch won against a German
(reunified) side weakened with the injury absence of Lothar Matthaus and Rudi
Voller.
The
sides would meet each in two further friendlies before the end of the decade.
The 1996 match marked the debut of Johann Cruyff’s son Jordi, as well Phillip
Cocu.
By
the time of the 1998 match, Frank Rijkaard had been appointed as National Team
manager.
