1980s
The
sides would meet one another more in this early part of the decade (four times
in total). The very first encounter in this decade would be the third place
match for the 1980 Euros that Czechoslovakia would win 9-8 in a penalty kick
shoot-out in Naples.
Though
not a win in regulation time, this was and remains Czechoslovakia’s only away
win over Italy.
The
sides would be paired in the Group phase of the 1984 Euros as well, with the
Czechs earning a tie on Italian soil and defeating a demoralized and fading
Italy in 1983.
The
last match between the Nations in this decade would be a friendly in Verona in
1984 that ended in a tie (1-1).
