International Season 1984/85, Part 6


March

The South American qualifiers involving Uruguay, Chile and Ecuador started. Chile scored an important win over Uruguay on March 24th.
Gary Lineker scored his first goal for England in a friendly vs. Republic of Ireland.
USSR defaeted Austria in a frinedly, where Branko Elsner made his debut as Manager of Asutria.
Belgium defeated Greece in their qualifier to recover from the points dropped vs. Greece and Albania in December.
Gerard Plessers was recalled recalled for the first time since the Standard-Watershei scandal.
Yugoslavia defeated Luxembourg by only (1-0).
Spain tied Nortehrn Ireland in a friendly. This was the first ever international match played at Palma.
Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pat Jennings earned his 109th cap. He overtook England’s Bobby Moore’s as the British record holder for the number of caps.
