International Season 1986/87, Part 2 (September 1986)

September

The UEFA European Qualifiers started with many match-ups. Romania inflicted a heavy losss on Austria (4-0). Austria Manager Branko Elsener offered to resign, but the Austrian Federation rejected it.
Jackie Charlton led Ireland in their first Competetive match and came away with a tie in Belgium (2-2).
Andy Roxburgh started his reign as Scotland Manager with a scoreless tie with Bulgaria.
Sweden defeated England (1-0) in a Friendly where the continent took notice of Swedish striker Johnny Ekström. Later in the month he scored twice in Sweden’s win over Switzerland, in a match where Switzerland’s Brunner was hit by a golf ball that was thrown from the stands.
France continued its early season poor form with a scoreless tie at Iceland.
Hungary played its first match under new Manager Imre Komora in a scoreless tie at Norway.
Allan Simonsen played his farewell match with Denmark in a Friendly vs. West Germany.
