International Season 1984/85, Part 1


July

Uruguay and Argentina kicked off the month with a scoreless draw. Of the European nations, only Romania decided not to take the month off and hosted China in two friendlies. The second marked the farewell macth of Dudu Georgescu.

Franz Beckenbauer made his debut as West Germany National Team Manager in a match at Dusseldorf vs. Argentina (1-3 loss). Incidenytally his final match as National Team manager would be against the same opponents and same Manager (Carlos Bilardo) in 1990.
Beckenbauer had convinced Felix Magath to return to the National Team fold. Uli Stilieke played his last match for the Germans in this match.
Lothar Matthaus, Andreas Brehme, Rudolf 'Rudi' Völler  were the only players to be involved in Franz Beckenbauer’s first match and very last match against Argentina.
New Yugoslavia Manager Milos Milutinovic saw his team demolished in Glasgow (1-6 loss).
Argentina continued its successful tour by not only defeating West Germany, but also Belgium.
Josef Masopust made his debut on the bench for Czechoslovakia.
East Germany played two matches on September 12th, against Greece and England. In the match vs. England, Jaochim Streich made his 100th appearance for East Germany.
The European World Cup Qualifiers started. Iceland defeated Wales , while the Republic of Ireland defeated USSR. Northern Ireland got an important victory at home vs. Romania, while Hungary defeated Austria.

  1. Hello, I've got a question about UNICEF Match on Jul 22, 1984. I'm looking for a detailed informations about that game, especially about substitutions during this game. Do you have any detailed informations, or at least a scans of magazines from July 1984?

In fact I've got some informations about this game from this source: https://app.box.com/s/3t44e5caqcz3ufico14y (can be found here: http://www.funwhileitlasted.net/2013/03/14/july-22-1984-new-york-cosmos-vs-world-all-stars/), however the information about substitutions is smaller than I expected. From the film I know that 3 from 4 changes in NY were made right after Sanchez goal. Moreover, some changes in World XI were made in half-time (these players that somebody mark on list). So I'm looking for rest information I checked El Mundo Deportivo archive, however I found there nothing useful.
