1990s
The
frequency of the matches between the sides increased in this decade as they
were drawn together in the qualifies of the 1992 and 2000 Euros, as well as the
1994 and 1998 World Cups.
England
defeated Poland (2-0) in 1990 with yet another Lineker goal and in the return leg
in November 1991, England qualified for the Euros with another Lineker goal
(his sixth vs. Poland).
England
were better in the 1994 WC qualifiers, but both sides were eliminated.
England
won both 1998 WC qualifiers, the 1997 win being a rare away win for England.
While
the 1999 EC qualifiers in March marked Kevin Keegan’s debut as England Manager
(England won through a Paul Scholes hat trick, 3-1 win).
The
last encounter in the decade ended in a scoreless tie at Poland.
