International Season 1979/80, Part 7 (March 1980)

March

The African Nations Cup took place in Nigeria. Nigeria were victorious over Algeria in the Final.
Uruguay toured Europe.
Italy defeated Uruguay (1-0) in Milan. This was Italy’s first ever win against Uruguay. Dino Zoff became the world’s recordholder of appearances as a goalkeeper with his 79th cap.
The 1982 World Cup Qualifiers started with Cyprus taking on Republic of Ireland and Israel taking on Northern Ireland.
England defeated Spain (2-0) at Barcelona.
The Final Euro Qualifier (inconsequential) took palce between Scotland and Portugal.
