Jenő Kellner
(1950) was a Hungarian footballer in the ’70s and ’80s. At the age of eighteen,
while still a youth player, he joined the Újpesti Dózsa youth team. Between
1970 and 1979, he was a footballer for Újpest, where he won the championship
seven times with the team and was a cup winner twice. In 1973, he played in the
UEFA Champions League (EC) quarterfinals against Juventus, and in 1974, in the
UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Bayern Munich. He scored eighteen
goals in 136 league matches. After his last league title, he moved to Bp.
Volán, where he played in both the first and second divisions. Later, he moved
to the second-division Székesfehérvári MÁV Előre, where he played in the second
and third divisions. He ended his active career in Székesfehérvár in 1985. In
1974, he was a member of the Hungarian national team that won the U23 European
Championship. He died at dawn on April 4, at the age of seventy-six.

(1937) was a Hungarian footballer in the ’50s and ’60s. He typically played in
the lower divisions (Gödöllői Dózsa, Bp. Vörös Meteor, Kiskunfélegyházi Honvéd),
reaching the top division with Szegedi EAC at the end of his career. He later
became a coach, active from the early 1970s to the early 2000s. He was on the
bench for 38 first division matches and almost thausend second and third
division matches among others for Szegedi Volán, Móravárosi Kinizsi, SZEAC,
Békéscsaba, Kecskemét or Szeol AK. He died on April 5, at the age of
eighty-nine.

ETO youth teams and was a coach for lower-division teams in the Győr area. On
April 23, while overtaking in Győr, a car ran over him with his bicycle and he
suffered such serious injuries that the ambulances that arrived at the scene
could no longer save his life. He was sixty years old.

László Fazekas
László Fazekas was a Hungarian footballer in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. He won 9
league titles with Újpesti Dózsa, 7 times without interruption. He was top
scorer three times. In 1980, he also won the European Silver Shoe for the last
time with 36 goals. From 1980, he was a striker for the Belgian Royal Antwerp
for four years. Here, he is considered one of the three best Antwerp players of
all time. In 1968, he won an Olympic gold medal with the Hungarian olympic
national team in Mexico City. Between 1968 and 1983, he played 92 times for the
national team and scored 24 goals. He played in two World Cups: in Argentina in
1978, in Spain in 1982. He worked as a coach in Belgium at Harelbeke, at Aalst
and at Royal Antwerp. A few years ago, an incurable neurological disease called
ALS attacked his body, forcing him to use a wheelchair. He died on May 6 in
Brasschaat, Belgium, at the age of seventy-eight.

coach. His father was a goalkeeper in the first division in the 1920s and
1930s, and his son, Géza Vlaszák Jr., was also a goalkeeper in 396 league
matches and was capped five times by the national team. He died on May 29 at

Mihály Pénzes
Mihály Pénzes was a Hungarian footballer in the ’70s and ’80s. He spent his
entire career with the first division team of Rába ETO. In 1974 he won the
championship bronze medal, and in 1979 he was a member of the team that won the
Hungarian Cup. He played for the national team once in 1974. He was a key
player for the Hungarian youth team (U23) that won the European Championship
title in 1974, leading to the final. He was the organizer and
everything-in-good guy of the ETO old boys' team almost until his death. After
a long, serious illness, he died on June 26. He would have been seventy-six in
August.
