In November of 1985, Frank Arnesen had lost his first team spot at Anderlecht
and was in danger of not making the national team in time for the Mexican World
Cup in 1986. He disclosed in an Interview that Johann Cruyff was interested in
signing him for his former club Ajax. Due to financial constraints Ajax were
unable to sign him, As a result he joined archrivals PSV Eindhoven.

In October 1978, Bayern Munich’s Uli Hoeness almost joined SV Hamburg after
falling out with Manager Gyula Lorant.
However,
the transfer fell through due to Hoeness’ refusal to undergo a medical test on
his suspect knee, SV Hamburg had requested a thorough examination whereby his
knee would have been opened up.

Before joining Barcelona in 1980, there were reports that Bend Schuster had
joined NY Cosmos from Koln.
The
NASL’s players union blocked the move.
The
Union were demanding the abolition of transfer fees and freedom of contatct.
Schuster
was told the matter could take up to weeks or months, as a result he joined
Barcelona.

the summer of 1979, it was reported that Real Madrid were on the verge of
signing PSV Eindhoven’s Rene van der Kerkhof.
However,
nothing materialized and the deal was called off.

December 1988, Alex Ferguson was interested in obtaining Gary Lineker from
Barcelona. However, Ferguson felt the price demanded was too high and lost
interest. Lineker joined Tottenham at the end of that season.
