International Season 1986/87, Part 9 (April 1987)


April

Spain won an important qualifier away from home at Austria (3-2).
Belgium defeated Scotland (4-1) at Brussels. England won its third straight match in its group by defeating Northern Ireland (2-0) at Belfast.
Republic of Ireland suffered its first defeat in the qualifiers st Bulgaria (1-2).
West Germany and Italy played in a scoreless tie in a high profile friendly.
Alexei Mikhailichenko played his first match for the Soviet Union in a key win over East Germany (2-0).
Holland defeated Hungary (2-0) to remain unbeaten in its group.
Michel Platini played his last match for France in a win vs. Iceland (2-0). He retired at the end of the season.
Romania defeated Spain (3-1) at Bucharest in a key qualifier in Group 1.
