He awarded a dubious penalty to Bulgaria, which was missed by Bonev in the 87th minute.

Bulgaria’s equalizer was scored on an obvious offside position of Panov and Vassilev.

French fans remember sporst announcer Thierry Roland’s outburst after the penalty award, when on the air he called Mr. Foote “Mr Foote, you are a bastard (Salaud)”

In a 1985 television interview, he apologized to Mr Foote for his outburst.

3-After this match, French Federation President Fernand Sastre, sent a letter to FIFA asking that Ian Foote no longer to be considered for refereeing matches involving France.

4-Final cap for Jean Gallice (7/1) (1974-1976).

2-Many French managers, most notably Saint Etienne’s Robert Herbin, had been opposed to this grueling tour at the end of the season. Herbin was particularly concerned about his players Christian Lopez and Dominique Bathenay, who were exhausted.

However, Hidalgo insisted it was necessary and an opportunity not to be missed for the experience and the preparations of the national team.

Platini described the Argentina squad as too static and lacking the quality of surprise to worry most European teams.

Argentinean Press tried in vain to make Hidalgo give reasons why Argentina were playing poorly, however, Hidalgo limited his responses on his own squad.

3-First cap for Atre Jacques Zimako.
